Blogs Improve Search Engine Rankings

Can blogs really improve your rankings?  How exactly can they help? There are a couple of ways in which blogs can help you improve your search engine rankings.  The first way is through what I call the Yahoo! checklist.  The Yahoo search engine likes to see evidence of social media on the sites they rank.

Yahoo's search results are more focused on a younger crowd that is interacting with many different kinds of social media.  As a rsult, they want to see links to Twitter, Facebook, and, you guest it "blogs" coming from your website. When the search spider detects the inclusion or exclusion of these elements, your ranking is impacted.

So the first step is to build a blog and link to it from your web site home page or even better in your navigation so it's accessible from all web pages.  Once this is completed, you're sure to begin moving your search results higher and higher resulting in more traffic to your website.

The second benefit of a blog is that others link to your valuable content.  If your content is original and noteworthy, others will begin to link to you creating tons of inbound links.  By now you should know that a lot of your ranking results have to do with inbound links from high PR web sites.  Blogs serve as a way to attract links to your website on an ongoing basis.

Whether you are new to blogging or a seasoned veteran, know that blogging has many benefits for improving your search engine rankings.  Start with a free service like blogger or wordpress and you'll be well on your way to blogging success.

Interesting that Yahoo is more youth/ social media focused.

How significant is this difference versus Google?

There is no "quick fix" for any of these questions; anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. Google uses thousands of undisclosed algorithms to ascertain your Search Ranking; only some of them are known. Those that are known are:

- Inbound links to your site from QUALITY, RELEVANT external sites (reciprocal links don't count like they did in the past; likewise getting as many links as possible from poor quality, irrelevant sites doesn't help.)
- Having an .XML site map submitted to the search engines, allowing them to crawl your site and list it properly.
- Optimised HTML including proper CSS, relevant image names and ALT tags, etc.
- Keyword density; the relative amount of occurrences of your keyword compared to other regular words on your site.

Hard word, research, and sound marketing and development are the only answers - quick fixes almost never work.

I have set up a Blogger blog for my website, and it has been effective at driving traffic to my main website in the Google Search engines.

This blog, however, hasn't been effective at being listed in Yahoo or other search engines. I understand why - Blogger is owned by Google.

That being said - should I set up duplicate blogs that are affialliated with some of the other search engines? I haven't found a sister blog for Yahoo, but wondered if it would be worth while to set up other blogs that are recognized by other popular search engines.

Thanks for your blog, I truly find it helpful.

That is so true. Having a blog makes user interaction possible through dynamic and less technical posts like we see in websites. Website owners don't have to scrap their websites, all you need to do is integrate a blog platform (WordPress is cool!) to your website.

ps.
get the updated version of the WP template if ever you do decide on it.

Thank you so much for that nicely written piece of text.I've been doing some research on which top seo company would be the best for me. I'm really looking for a company that knows what they're doing and have me and my site's best interest in mind. I figure they'll do well if my work is doing well. One of the places I'm looking into is www.bergstrom-seo.com. I was wondering if you've ever dealt with them and what your opinion of them is. I'm kind of nervous about just jumping in and working with a company before I get other people's opinions on them. I really like to hear about others' experiences. Working with a top seo company is new to me so I'd rather use good judgement than just a gut feeling when deciding who to work with.
